ANOTHER BREXIT INSULT
23/10/2025
A new “biometric” system for entering EU countries has begun as some travellers have already discovered. Because we so stupidly left the EU after a controversially corrupt and very ill-advised vote, Britons now must be fingerprinted and photographed like criminals before entry to any EU country (except Ireland). Personally, as someone who lived in France for several years and worked in many EU countries, I find this pretty insulting. Had the catastrophe of Brexit not been schemingly pushed through by the notorious Brexiters, and our EU Citizenship and other rights and privileges thereby removed in a very democratically dodgy referendum, the result of which has never been confirmed despite huge demonstrations and polls showing the UK populace is not in favour, this would not have happened.
Anyway, at least there is some glimmer of hope when politicians such as Wes Streeting and Rachel Reeves are finally speaking out about Brexit being a primary cause of the inflationary and societal mess in which Britain finds itself. The notorious lie of £350 million a week Brexit would bring to the NHS has been exposed in all its mischievous mendacity, as those of us who saw through it knew it would. Where, though, are all the other politicians who should be fighting to overturn this senseless and injurious decision? Well, Rachel Reeves is saying that the adverse impact of Brexit is “severe and long-lasting” and will be a factor in having to raise taxes. Unfortunately, she is also short-circuiting the planning system to allow development at the expense of wildlife and nature conservation, which in my view and that of many, is madness. We are already living in one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, with insects, song birds and aquatic life in serious trouble, and biodiversity under an onslaught of pollution, over-development and the climate catastrophe.
Although Reeves says the government is at last now working to allay some of the Brexit plight we are in, the UK should be working tirelessly to rejoin the EU[1]. Of course, it will not be on the very favourable terms and conditions we had before, but anything will be better than the current disastrous mess. Costs are still mounting but they are eye-watering – tens of billions of pounds a year! I am sure you can all see this in daily life but don’t take my word for it, check out the Office for Budget Responsibility or the UK Trade and Business Commission for example, or visit https://brexitcarnage.org/[2].
Betts Ecology have always objected to Brexit in the strongest terms. It was a manipulated, mendacious and mischievous campaign that ended in a skewed result without democratic validity.
[1] A recent YouGov poll showed 62% of Brits want to rejoin the EU.
