Background

Betts Ecology were commissioned to examine estuarine ecological impacts of sea wall works and associated fill/reclamation operations.

Client & Location

Local landowner, Severn Estuary

Operations

Betts Ecology conducted examinations of the sea wall and associated works both along the estuary and landwards where there are ecologically important freshwater drainage reens on the abutting levels. Surveys conducted included saltmarsh and other halophytic vegetation, freshwater aquatic life and estuarine birds (summer and winter). Data collected were used in discussions with clients and the local planning office.

Outcome

Betts Ecology were able to provide options for avoidance and mitigation of the project’s impacts as well as recommendations for future monitoring and management.
